GLOSSARY
What is a no-show rate?
No-show rate is the percentage of booked appointments where the person does not turn up. You calculate it by dividing no-shows by total booked appointments. For any business that runs on booked calls or visits, it is a direct drain on revenue and calendar time.
Every no-show is capacity you cannot resell and time your team already set aside. In appointment led businesses like clinics and consultancies, a high no-show rate quietly caps how much you can earn from the same diary.
The most common causes are simple: too long a gap between booking and appointment, no reminder, or an appointment the person was never really committed to. Faster booking and timely reminders address the first two directly.
Automated confirmations and reminders by the channel the person actually reads, plus an easy way to reschedule rather than silently drop, are the usual levers for bringing the rate down.
